- accepting uploads and downloads
- providing a simple yet powerful permission system
- storing meta data in an SQL accessible database
- providing customizable layout
- arranging files in a virtual directory structure so that the URLs pointing to documents stay human readable
- featuring a virtual folder mechanism allowing us to present the same file space in various views
